7.62-mm self-loading carbine Simonov (abroad also known as SCS-45) - Soviet self-loading carbine design Sergei Simonov, adopted in 1949. For a decade, SCS stood in the arsenal of the Soviet army along with the Kalashnikov assault rifle and the Degtyarev hand-gun.

By the end of the 1950s, with the goal of unifying small arms in the Soviet Army, it was decided to replace the carbines with rifles everywhere in the rifle units. According to the command, along with the undoubted advantage of AK in the high fire density of rifle units, the advantage of SCS in conducting a single fire can be ignored, since in the modern battle the latter factor no longer played a decisive role.
